Consider the source.
Our material direction begins with plant-derived inputs. For a specific sample, ask for the available composition information and understand what the statement “plant-based” covers.
RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT
Plant-derived origins are a starting point. Responsible material decisions also examine construction, performance and what happens after use.
We see material innovation as a connected set of questions.
Our material direction begins with plant-derived inputs. For a specific sample, ask for the available composition information and understand what the statement “plant-based” covers.
A material needs to be assessed in its product context. Useful life, maintenance, processing and construction choices all belong in a development discussion.
Linings, adhesives, coatings, stitching and other components can affect the final product. The characteristics of a material alone do not establish those of the finished assembly.
Biodegradability and compostability depend on defined conditions and supporting evidence. Do not assume that a plant-derived material can be placed in a household compost bin or discarded in nature.
We do not publish numerical carbon or water savings, universal breakdown timelines or independent certification claims on this website. Ask for the evidence available for the particular sample, test conditions and intended use.
Our project discussions are an opportunity to define which information a brand or manufacturer needs before making product or environmental claims of its own.
